To deepen the understanding and advance the experimental techniques for rotor ice shedding, thereby providing a foundation for comprehending the mechanisms of ice shedding, conducting numerical simulations, and promoting the development of anti-icing/de-icing technologies. In the past thirty years, relevant research equipment and measurement methods at home and abroad were reviewed. Firstly, the rotor de-icing research facilities and environmental parameter calibration methods were introduced. Secondly, the measurement techniques for rotor de icing characteristic parameters, adhesion stress, and dynamic performance parameters were summarized and compared. High precision measurement of macroscopic de-icing time, position, and ice shape can be achieved through direct or indirect methods such as high-speed photography, thrust/power monitoring, and 3D scanning. However, the capture of transient de-icing details and direct measurement technology for de-icing quality still need further development. The measurement of adhesion stress on impact ice is currently a research focus, but there is still a lack of unified evaluation standards for the results obtained by different testing methods. High precision mechanical sensors can monitor performance changes caused by rotor de-icing, but there is a lack of effective monitoring methods for flow field disturbances caused by de icing. Finally, the key issues and technical difficulties in current rotor de-icing test research were discussed, and future development directions were discussed.
