Abstract

In the Yushen mining area, locally burnt rock connects with weathered bedrock, forming a groundwater system with abundant recharge sources, unobstructed flow paths, and strong water yield capacity, posing significant water hazards to underground mining operations. To address the coupled water hazards from burnt and weathered rock, collaborative technical research was conducted on burnt rock aquifer boundary detection and weathered rock water hazard control. The results indicate that a weathered rock aquifer with a thickness of 8.0~34.0 m develops at the top interface of the Jurassic formation. Its specific yield is 0.032 381~0.044 066 L/(s·m), indicating weak water yield capacity, with a maximum water pressure of 0.8 MPa. Near the eastern boundary of the well field, a burnt rock aquifer is developed, characterized by fragmented rock structure and sintered pores and cavities. Its specific capacity ranges from 0.04 to 1.391 L/(s·m), indicating weak to strong water yield capacity, and it serves as the main recharge source for the weathered rock aquifer above the coal seam roof. Based on the coupled water hazard characteristics of burnt rock and weathered rock, as well as coal mining techniques and drainage systems, a water hazard control method combining surface and underground exploration of the burnt rock boundary and grouting reconstruction of the roof weathered rock aquifer is developed. During the exploration of the burnt rock boundary, five surface boreholes and seven underground directional boreholes were drilled, accurately delineating the boundary of the burnt rock aquifer. In accordance with the Detailed Rules for Water Prevention and Control in Coal Mines (Coal Mine Safety Supervision Investigation[2018] No.14), a 20 m waterproof coal pillar was retained. A grouting reconstruction technique combining long and short boreholes was applied within the 20 m section above the coal seam roof, achieving grouting treatment in the water-conducting fracture zone of the roof. This resulted in grout filling and sealing of the weathered rock aquifer and reinforcement of the fractured rock mass, eliminating water hazards during roadway excavation and strip filling mining. This approach provides technical support for the exploration and control of coupled water hazards in burnt rock and weathered rock in the northern Shaanxi mining area.
