To enhance the safety of crude oil storage process, a simulation was conducted using Fluent to analyze the emission concentrations of oil and gas from 2, 4, and 6 storage tanks under external wind interference. The oil and gas were normally discharged through the breathing valve within the explosive hazardous area formed by the tank group, and the required monitoring time was evaluated. The results indicate that the emission hazard from the breathing valve decreases as the nitrogen supplementation level increases, with a corresponding extension in the time required for an explosive hazard to develop. The vortex formed by the external wind speed at the top of the tank accelerates the diffusion and dilution in the downwind direction for each breathing valve on the top of the tanks within the tank group. Higher wind speed strengthens these accelerated diffusion and dilution effects. As the distance downwind from the center of the tank top increases, the dilution effect grows more rapidly than the accelerated diffusion. The monitoring equipment installed at the bottom of each tank in the group was found to be ineffective in detecting breathing valve emission hazards. The monitoring of the lower explosive limit concentration of breathing valve emissions primarily occurs in the downwind direction. When there is tank interference on both sides behind the No.1 tank, longitudinal diffusion occurs, though the effect is limited. The optimal monitoring performance was achieved with equipment installed 0.1 m from the center of the tank top. For external tank monitoring, priority should be given to the center of the tank top, and comprehensive measures should be implemented to control detected hazardous concentrations.
