Abstract

Fractured-vuggy reservoirs are of significant importance in China’s oil and gas resources. The heterogeneous development of pores, vugs, and fractures, combined with complex flow mechanisms, is observed to result in diverse morphologies of well-testing curves, which creates challenges for practical interpretation. To clarify fractured-vuggy patterns and their corresponding curve characteristics, 63 well-testing curves from the study area were statistically analyzed and classified into 3 major categories and 8 subtypes based on morphological features. Typical wells of each curve type were analyzed to characterize fractured-vuggy structures and spatial configurations of reservoir units. Fluid seepage mechanisms under different fractured-vuggy patterns were summarized. Results indicate that for large-scale fractured-vuggy composite structures, the relatively closed type is characterized by responses from internal large-scale reservoir units and peripheral fractures. A late-stage decline in pressure derivative curves is observed in the peripheral tight type. Distinct fracture responses between multiple cavities are identified in the multi-cavity composite type. For multi-cavity structures, single-cavity and dual-cavity types are found to exhibit one or two concave segments in pressure derivative curves, respectively. Prominent “peak-like” fluctuations are detected in cavity cluster types. For large-scale fracture structures, early radial flow, mid-term linear flow, and minor vug fluctuations are demonstrated in fracture-network vug types. Mid-term linear flow and boundary responses from limited fractures are observed in fracture-dominated types during later stages. The research results provide a reference for reservoir type analysis and well-test interpretation in similar fractured-vuggy reservoirs.
