Abstract

In order to make reclaimed asphalt pavement(RAP) rationally used in pavement base structure, the coarse aggregate content was determined through the filling test method, followed by fine aggregate content adjustment, the maximum dry density was employed as an indicator to select two preferred RAP dosages (30% and 40%) for the two types of large-size graded gravel mixes, and the optimization of the gradation method was verified by the California bearing ratio(CBR) test, followed by an analysis of its mechanical properties under low-dosage cement conditions, with comparisons made to the performance of conventional-size graded gravel mixes incorporating RAP. The results indicated that the optimal skeleton compaction characteristics of RAP-incorporated large-size graded gravel mixes are achieved in gradations A3 and B3, respectively, and the amount of crushed stone above 26.5 mm was 35.6% and 31.2%, CBR is 219% and 185%, and their CBRs are increased by 85.6% and 81.4% compared with the RAP-added conventional size graded gravel mixes S1 and S2. When the cement dose is the same, optimal mechanical properties were achieved with the two RAP dosages in large-size gravel mixes of gradations A3 and B3, respectively, the 7 d unconfined compressive strengths of A3 and B3 mixes at 2% cement dosage are 2.7 MPa and 2.2 MPa. The cement dosage of low-dose cement stabilized large-size graded gravel mix with RAP should be controlled at 2.0% to 2.5%.
