Abstract

A tracking strategy for small-sized triaxial antennas was proposed to address the issues of poor tracking performance and algorithm complexity in low-earth orbit (LEO) terminal applications. Through analysis of high-elevation angle tracking characteristics, a mathematical model for antenna tracking pointing angles was established, and formulas for antenna pointing angles in different coordinate systems as well as beam spatial pointing were derived. Validated using a set of LEO satellite data, results demonstrate that the antenna tracking error remains less than one-tenth of the beam width during satellite transit, meeting the operational requirements of LEO terminals. The derivation process of the antenna tracking pointing angles possesses universality and can be extended to any type of triaxial antenna in satellite communication applications.
