Abstract

The exploration of lateral displacement, surface settlement, groundwater level, and surrounding building settlement during the excavation of the irregular deep foundation pit at Hufang Station on Nanchang Metro Line 2 was conducted. A water-rich sandy stratum metro station was used as the engineering background. Monitoring data collected over a 12-month period were comprehensively analyzed. The lateral displacement during excavation is observed to follow the pattern of standard sections > end wells > irregular corner areas. The maximum lateral displacement of the diaphragm wall is measured between 0.014 6% and 0.13% of the excavation depth. The average maximum lateral displacement is calculated as 0.059% of the excavation depth. The points of maximum lateral displacement are predominantly located within the range of -20 m to +15 m relative to the excavation depth. The main area affected by surface settlement outside the pit is confined within 30 meters from the excavation. The maximum surface settlement outside the pit is recorded as 9.16 mm. This maximum settlement is observed approximately 8 meters from the pit edge. For the water-rich sandy stratum, dewatering measures inside the pit are implemented. The groundwater level is effectively controlled through these measures. Real-time monitoring of settlements in surrounding buildings is performed. The construction impact is thus ensured to remain within controllable limits. These findings are considered to provide a reliable reference for similar foundation pit construction projects.
