Abstract

To investigate the mechanical behavior characteristics of wing-tipped monopile foundations under horizontal cyclic loading, a three-dimensional numerical model of the wing-tipped monopile-clay interaction was established by using the finite element software ABAQUS. A soil stiffness degradation model was implemented via the USDFLD subroutine to analyze the horizontal displacement accumulation mechanism of wing-tipped monopile foundations in clay seabeds. The results indicate that the horizontal displacement response of wing-tipped monopiles under cyclic loading is governed by soil stiffness, foundation embedment depth, load amplitude, and wing plate dimensions, with the influence intensity successively decreasing for wing plate length, width, and thickness. A linear correlation exists between horizontal displacement and initial soil strength under low-cycle loading, while nonlinear characteristics dominate as cyclic load cycles increase. Local scouring alters the horizontal displacement of wing-tipped monopiles by reducing the contact area between wing plates and soil. These findings not only advance existing pile foundation theories but also provide scientific insights for the design of wing-tipped monopile foundations.
