Abstract

In order to inquire about the evacuation performance of narrow-body airliners and investigate the efficiency of evacuating passenger groups, including individuals with disabilities, multiple physiological and psychological factors such as gender, age, waist size, mobility, and psychological disposition in accordance with empirical test results was analyzed. Utilizing a cellular automata model combined with a dynamic decision-making model of pedestrians, the behavior decision-making logic of the hearing-impaired, visually-impaired, and mobility-impaired passengers was examined to understand the speed and behavior decision-making processes during the evacuations. In the emergency evacuation of a single-aisle cabin in the B737-500, a simulation scenario was established to explore the impact of disabled passengers on the overall dynamics. The results revealed that the presence of disabled passengers will significantly prolong the overall evacuation time under varying load factors, particularly at halfload. However, the evacuation preparation time of disabled passengers exhibited no significant impact on the overall evacuation duration. In consideration of the imitative findings, disabled passengers should be arranged close to the cabin door and in the vicinity of flight attendants.
