Abstract

Glutinous rice slurry and lime treated soil (GL-Soil) is a common construction material for ancient site protection. In order to study the glutinous rice slurry-lime bond damage and contact fabric evolution subjected to compression loading, numerical simulations of uniaxial compression and triaxial compression of GL-Soil were carried out using the discrete element method (DEM). The discrete element specimens of GL-Soil were firstly prepared based on the soft bond model considering the strength characteristics of the glutinous rice slurry-lime mixture, then reasonable contact effective modulus and bond strength parameters were calibrated by parameter sensitivity analysis, and finally the uniaxial and triaxial compression simulations were carried out. The results and conclusions are as follows. The discrete element simulation can reproduce the main characteristics of the laboratory test results of the GL-Soil. The number of damaged bonds increases slowly and then rapidly during the loading process, and eventually level off, and the bond damage shows localization phenomenon. Tensile damage mainly occurs under uniaxial compression, and the number of shear damage increases with the increase in confining pressure. The rapid increase of the deviator fabric is induced by the bond damage.
