Abstract
In order to achieve the efficient utilization of spatiotemporal resources at intersections, the problem of integrated optimization between lane allocation and signal control at intersections was studied. Firstly, based on the dual-ring standard phase of NEMA (National Electric Manufacturers Association) in the United States, and considering the diminishing effect of saturated flow with the increasing number of lanes, BMILP (binary-mix-integer-linear-program) model was established for integrated optimization of lane allocation and signal control scheme at intersections. The model aims to minimize the signal cycle and under the constraints of lane allocation, phase duration, saturated flow, traffic flow, flow ratio and degree of saturation. Secondly, the global optimal solution of the model was quickly obtained by using the branch-and-bound method. Finally, intersection of Beijing East road and Danfeng street in Nanjing was selected to verify the model through setting up three different combinations of traffic flow. The results show that the model can generate lane allocation and signal timing schemes according to the distribution of traffic flow at the intersection, without the need to preset specific lane configuration, while also allowing for flexible arrangement of shared lanes and right-turn phases. In addition, a sensitivity analysis was conducted on the maximum acceptable saturation parameter of the model, discussing its relationship with optimization results such as signal cycle and phase saturation.
