There are various types of inland water bodies around the world, and evaporation is a key process in the eco-hydrological cycle of these systems. The influence of advection processes on inland water evaporation is significant and cannot be neglected, yet it is overlooked in most evaporation modeling studies. Accurately quantifying this effect is critical for evaporation simulations. To examine the relationship between advection, evaporation, and the area of inland water bodies, an aquaculture pond in Anhui Province and Lake Taihu were selected as representatives of different-sized water bodies. Continuous observations of latent heat fluxes over several year were based on eddy covariance method. The evaporation models were applied to simulate the latent heat fluxes of two water bodies. The Priestley-Taylor model was used to quantify the influence of the advection on evaporation of two water bodies from 2018 to 2022, and the relationships between the advection coefficient, atmospheric stability over the water bodies, and water area were analyzed. The results show that the three revised models correct the biases of the evaporation simulations in monthly and annual scales to some extent. The monthly advection coefficient is 1.11~1.78 for the aquaculture pond and 1.18~1.83 for Lake Taihu. The monthly proportion of atmospheric instability time is exceeding 70.0% for the aquaculture pond whether for Lake Taihu ranging from 61.0% to 100.0%. Monthly advection coefficient is significantly negative to the stability over water bodies. The coefficient of determination is 0.65 for the aquaculture pond and 0.25 for Lake Taihu. There is a decreasing trend with increasing water areas excluding the aquaculture pond. The research results can provide reference for understanding the mechanism of evaporation advection in inland water bodies.
