Chemical field-induced failure is one of the common failure modes of materials. Due to its complex multi-physics coupling failure mechanism, the traditional finite element method has certain limitations in analyzing this complex mechanical-chemical coupling failure. In recent years, the phase-field fracture model has unique advantages in analyzing crack initiation, propagation and branching. The phase-field fracture model is based on the variational principle of fracture mechanics, which can effectively deal with multi-field coupling fracture problems. The theoretical framework, control equations and finite element implementation of the mechanical-chemical coupling fracture phase field model was introduced in detail, and the application of the model in the charging and discharging process of lithium-ion battery particles and the hydrogen embrittlement of metal materials was briefly described. Finally, the main problems of the model in engineering application were expounded, and the future research direction was discussed.
