Abstract:The geological conditions for iron ore mineralization in the western region of Shandong Province are favorable. Distinct geophysical anomalies are observed in the study area. Major breakthroughs in prospecting and significant research progress are achieved by geologists in recent years. Several iron deposits characterized by deep burial, high grade, and large thickness have been discovered in areas such as Qihe, Yucheng, and Gaotang. Future skarn-type iron exploration in the region is aimed to be guided by comprehensive analyses of exploration results research and metallogenic prediction. Analysis of the ore?controlling factors of the skarn?type iron deposits in the study area indicates that the iron ore bodies are jointly affected by “strata, intrusive rocks, and structures”. The ore?hosting spaces are primarily located in contact zones between the Ordovician (as well as Carboniferous–Permian) strata and intrusive rock bodies, and within the interlayer detachment zones of the Ordovician (as well as Carboniferous–Permian) strata. Geophysical anomalies, particularly gravity and magnetic anomalies, serve as significant indicators for deep iron ore bodies. Based on integrating the latest exploration research results and the comprehensive prospecting model for skarn-type iron deposits in the area, metallogenic prediction was conducted for the Qihe-Yucheng ore concentration area through analyses of geological characteristics, geophysical anomalies, and exploration outcomes. A total of 5 iron metallogenic prospect areas were delineated (including 3 Class I, 2 Class II areas). Furthermore, 15 iron prospecting targets were identified (including 5 Grade A, 3 Grade B, and 7 Grade C targets). Additionally, 27 minimum prediction areas (including 6 Class A, 4 Class B, and 17 Class C minimum prediction areas). The metallogenic prediction research in this paper provides direction for future iron ore exploration in the region.
