Turbulent drag reduction plays an important role in energy consumption and pollution reduction of the transportation, such as ships, submarines, airplane, especially long-distance transport pipeline. Numerical investigation of turbulent flow over smooth surface and triangle riblet surfaces of pipes are carried out using Large Eddy Simulation (LES). The feasibility of using LES to study turbulent drag reduction in triangle riblet surfaces of pipes has been proved, which provides reference basis for drag reduction investigation of other forms of non-smooth surfaces of pipes. The flow field of the smooth surfaces and triangle riblet surfaces of pipes are analyzed and the mechanism of turbulent drag reduction is discussed.
