Abstract A coordination polymer of the sodium alginate (SA) with Zn (II) was formed in the form of membrane. The obtained coordination polymer (alginic acid-Zn) was characterized and confirmed by means of FT-IR and diffusion reflection spectroscopy (DRS) meansurements. This coordination polymer was crosslinked with glutaraldehyde (GA) in order to obtain the precursor of the imprinted polymer. The crosslinked coordination polymer was investigated by FTIR. The elution of Zn (II) from the coordination polymer membrane was carried out by immersing the crosslinked precursor membrane in the 0.5mol/L HCl solution for 48 h with stirring. The eluted solution was determinated by UV-Vis to detect whether Zn (II) has been eluted or not. The rebinding experiments indicated the significant recognition for Zn (II) with imprinted polymer (MIP-Zn) as compared with non-imprinted polymer (AA-Zn).
